Mia slammed into Ernest with the full weight of everything he’d done seconds before still burning in her throat, her palms shoving flat against his chest until they stood locked in the bare center of the room, nothing to brace against but each other and the thin air between them and the floor. The denim of his jeans rasped brutally against the thin cotton of her skirt as she drove her hips forward in one vicious, punishing grind, the coarse seam of his fly catching the softest part of her through the layers and dragging with a heat that made her molars grind together. Sweat already pooled in the small of her back where the silk blouse clung and refused to let go, and as she shoved harder the wet fabric peeled and re-stuck against her skin, cooling in a thin crawl that did nothing to slow her down. She wanted him off-balance. She wanted him to feel it the way she’d felt the floor drop out from under her when she’d learned the truth. She gave him no room to steady his feet.

His breath punched out of him in a broken gasp, his hands flying to her waist on pure instinct, fingers digging into the curve of her hips where the bunched cotton of her waistband bit a soft crease into the meat of his thumb. “Mia—” The word came out cracked and went nowhere, because her next roll dragged the rough weave of his jeans directly over the aching ridge of him, the friction so sharp and unforgiving that his knees gave a single traitorous dip. They lurched. His boots skated on the hardwood, no traction, no wall, no chair-back, nothing, and his arms snapped tighter around her purely to keep them from going down. The save cost him. The clench of his whole body pressed him harder into the punishing seam of her, and the sound that tore out of him wasn’t a word at all.

To her it was the exact burn of that denim seam catching again and again, the thick ridge beneath it pressing and dragging with every desperate shift of her weight, her body still learning how to move like this and hating how fast it had learned to want it. She felt his breath scalding the damp skin of her throat in fast, uneven bursts, felt her own sweat slide down the valley between her breasts where the silk clung and pulled with a slick, slithering drag that pulled a tremor up through her ribs. Her accusation tried to climb up out of her—”You—you bas—”—and broke apart against her teeth when his thigh shoved higher between hers, the denim there coarser still, abrading the tender inside of her leg with a raw, dragging heat that turned the curse into a thin, humiliating whimper.

He felt the accusation die against his neck and something in him flinched, guilt and want snarling together until he couldn’t tell them apart, couldn’t tell what he was reaching for when his hands slid up her spine over the soaked silk. The fabric had bunched at her lower back and it dragged across his palms in a hot, wet smear as he tried to haul her closer, tried to find leverage in a body that gave him none. There was nothing to hold. Every grip he found betrayed him—the silk slipped, the waistband of her skirt rolled under his fingers, her hip bone slid out of his grasp—and each failed handhold yanked them another inch off-center. His left boot skidded out. He caught it. His right foot took all their weight for one trembling second and the muscle in his thigh seized, a deep ugly burn that climbed toward cramp, and still he couldn’t stop, still she ground against him, and the only thing keeping either of them vertical was the desperate friction of their bodies fighting each other for purchase.

She felt him list and reached out blind for the wall she knew wasn’t there, her fingers closing on empty room, and the miss spun her weight back into him so hard they nearly toppled the other direction. “Don’t—wait—” she got out, not meaning it, her bare feet skidding wide on the boards to splay her stance and steal back some base, calves trembling, arches aching with the strain of holding a position that had no foundation under it. The wider stance dropped her, and the new angle dragged the full thick line of him along the seam of her underwear through a single layer of denim and her own damp cotton, and the precision of it, the relentless exactness, made her breath stop entirely. She had to move again or fall. She moved. It was the worst possible thing she could have done and she did it anyway, and the slide that answered her wrung a guttural sound from his chest that vibrated against her sternum.

“Mia, don’t—fuck—” His warning collapsed mid-word because she’d ground down again, and his hands clamped on the rolled waistband of her skirt for an anchor and the cotton just gave, sliding through his fingers, and the failure pitched his hips forward into hers in a long unbroken drag. They were both shaking now, not from the act but from the sheer labor of staying up, thighs quaking, sweat sheeting between them where silk met denim met skin, the silk of her blouse soaked through and gluing to his forearm every time he tried to readjust his grip. Each correction was another grind. Each grind cost them their balance. Each near-fall forced them to clutch tighter and grind harder to save it, a vicious loop neither of them had built on purpose, both of them trapped inside it, panting into each other’s mouths without the breath left to make it a kiss.

And then—she felt it happen and so did he, the same instant, the horror landing in both of them at once—their hips caught. Not lurching against each other anymore but moving with each other, a single helpless rhythm, the rough drag of denim over the swollen ache of her settling into a steady pulse and the hard line of him answering it in the same beat, sweat and cotton and silk gone slick enough to let the motion glide even while the seams underneath stayed punishing. She tried to break it. She deliberately threw her weight wrong, jerked her hips out of time, and her body simply found the rhythm again on the next pass, faster, like it had been waiting its whole life to learn exactly this. He felt her stumble out of sync and felt his own hips chase hers back into it before his mind could veto, and the wrongness of it, the perfect betraying alignment of two people who’d spent months pretending not to want this, flooded him with something closer to dread than pleasure.

“No—we—” Her voice splintered. She didn’t know which of them she was begging. Their foreheads knocked together and stayed, slick skin to slick skin, breath punching back and forth in the inches between, and still the rhythm tightened, drawing them up toward an edge neither had agreed to approach. He whined something that might have started as her name. She dug her nails into his shoulders not to pull him closer but to try to push, and her hips kept rolling against the will of her hands, and the contradiction of it—wanting to stop, unable to stop, the friction climbing higher with every traitorous beat—stretched the approach into something unbearable, drawn thin as wire about to snap.

It snapped. The climax tore through her first or him first or both at once, impossible to tell, a single shared convulsion that locked their hips flush and held them there shuddering, denim biting, silk plastered, foreheads grinding together as the pleasure crested and the horror crested right behind it in the same wave. Their legs nearly buckled for real this time, and they clung through it not out of tenderness but because letting go meant the floor.

They froze. The rhythm cut dead, leaving only their ragged breathing and the cooling sweat between them. Mia’s hands dropped first, then his, and they stepped apart on shaking legs that barely held, the dark wet patch spreading on his jeans and the damp cotton clinging high on her thigh the only evidence left. Neither spoke. She turned away. So did he. And in the silence each of them understood, with a cold dropping certainty, exactly how much the other had just felt.
