Ronan Vale stared at the glowing spreadsheet on his monitor, the numbers blurring as thunder cracked outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of his corner office. Rain lashed the glass in sheets, turning the midnight city into a smear of lights. He had not planned to share this space tonight with anyone, least of all the new hire who radiated energy like a live wire.

Elara Voss leaned over the opposite side of the shared desk, her fingers flying across her own keyboard. She had been with the firm for six weeks, yet already she knew the client files better than half the senior staff. Her presence filled the room with quiet determination that grated against his usual preference for silence.

“We need the revised projections by one,” she said, voice bright even at this hour. “The storm knocked out the servers downtown, but the backup is holding.”

Ronan grunted, eyes flicking to the way her blouse clung to her shoulders from the damp air that had slipped in earlier. He remembered the interview, the way she had challenged his assumptions about the merger without flinching. That spark had lingered in his thoughts ever since, unwelcome and persistent.

Lightning split the sky, illuminating the tension in her posture as she waited for his approval on the next section. The office felt smaller with every passing minute, the air thick with the scent of rain and her subtle perfume. He shifted in his chair, forcing focus back to the screen.

“Your numbers are solid,” he admitted after a long pause, the words rough. “But the risk assessment needs tightening before we send it.”

She smiled, quick and genuine, and the expression hit him low in the gut. They had danced around this pull since her first day, stolen glances during meetings, brushes of hands over shared documents. Tonight the deadline had trapped them here together, the building mostly empty except for the security guards floors below.

Another boom of thunder rattled the windows. The lights flickered once, then held. Elara stood to stretch, rolling her neck, and Ronan caught the line of her throat in the low lamplight. He rose too, needing movement, needing distance that the room refused to give.

“You have been carrying the weight on this deal since the start,” she said, stepping closer to point at a clause on his screen. Her arm brushed his. Heat sparked where they touched. “Let me handle the final polish. You look like you could use a break.”

Ronan turned, and suddenly the space between them vanished. Her eyes held his, wide and steady, full of that relentless optimism he both resented and craved. His hand lifted without permission, fingers grazing her jaw.

“Elara,” he warned, voice low. Consent lived in the way she leaned into the touch, in the quick catch of her breath. “If we start this, there is no pretending it did not happen.”

She answered by closing the gap, mouth meeting his with surprising force. The kiss tasted like coffee and determination. Ronan backed her against the desk, papers scattering under her hands as he deepened it, tongue sliding against hers. Her fingers clutched his shirt, pulling him closer while thunder rolled outside.

He broke away only to trail his lips down her neck, tasting salt and rain on her skin. “Tell me to stop,” he muttered against her pulse. She shook her head, arching into him instead.

Ronan’s hands moved to her damp blouse, fingers working each button free with deliberate patience while she stayed pinned half-dressed against the desk edge. The fabric parted slowly, revealing skin flushed from the storm’s chill, and he pushed the open sides aside without fully stripping her, leaving the blouse hanging loose on her shoulders. His palms skimmed the exposed curve of her waist, savoring the contrast of cool fabric against her warming flesh.

Lightning flashed again, casting their silhouettes stark against the glass where distant city lights still pierced the downpour. Ronan lifted her onto the desk and spread her thighs, stepping between them as rain hammered the windows in relentless rhythm. The risk of being seen hung thick in the air, security cameras or late-night eyes from the towers across the street potentially catching every motion if the storm thinned even for a moment.

His hand slid under her skirt, finding her already wet and ready. He stroked her slowly, watching her face tighten with building pleasure, the cool wood beneath her palms grounding her while his body heat pressed close. Elara’s breath hitched sharper now, hips tilting toward him.

“Fuck me right here where the whole city could watch through these windows,” she gasped, voice breaking with urgency. “Don’t stop, please, I need it now.”

“Then stay quiet,” Ronan commanded low against her ear, “or the guards will come running.” He pushed two fingers inside her, curling deep while his thumb worked her clit in steady circles. The wet sounds of her arousal mixed with the rain’s steady assault on the glass.

Elara came with a sharp cry that the storm swallowed, body clenching around his fingers. Ronan withdrew them and adjusted her hips on the desk edge, pulling her forward so her ass sat flush against the wood and her legs hooked wider around him. He freed himself from his trousers, stroking once before lining up at her entrance.

He sank into her in one steady thrust, the tight heat of her pulling a groan from his chest. Rain drummed louder against the glass as he drove forward, each snap of his hips producing a wet slap where their bodies met. The cool surface under her palms contrasted sharply with the furnace of his skin pressing her down, every thrust making the desk creak while city lights flickered beyond the windows.

Ronan bent to take one nipple into his mouth, sucking hard as he drove deeper. Elara’s moans grew louder, urging him faster, but he kept one hand over her mouth to muffle the sound. The desk creaked beneath them, papers crushed under her palms, her nails digging into his back through his shirt.

She shattered a second time, inner walls pulsing around him. Ronan followed moments later, burying himself to the hilt with a low curse, spilling deep inside her. They stayed locked together, breathing hard while the rain continued its assault on the glass.

Afterward he eased out carefully, grabbing tissues from the drawer to clean her gently. His hands lingered on her thighs, steadying her as she slid down from the desk. Elara rested her forehead against his chest, and he allowed the contact, one arm circling her waist.

“We still have the deadline,” she murmured, a smile in her voice. Ronan kissed the top of her head, already calculating how to rearrange the remaining work around this new, undeniable shift between them.
