Tangled Bodies and Unspoken Power
Maeve’s fingers scrabbled at the elastic, catching, sliding off the damp skin beneath it, the fabric bunching wrong every time she thought she had it. Her nails dragged a red line up Kristen’s hip instead of the waistband itself, and the frustration of it — the sheer animal indignity of being defeated by cotton — made her jaw ache with how hard she was grinding her teeth. Their legs were already laced too tight to give her room to work; every time she tried to shift her wrist for a better angle, Kristen’s calf tightened behind her knee and locked her in place, and the two of them rolled a few useless degrees sideways on the mattress, gravity doing nothing to help, the whole tangled architecture of limbs refusing to yield an inch.
“You stole every—” Kristen’s voice broke off into a hiss as Maeve finally got two fingers under the waistband and hauled, and the underwear twisted instead of sliding, cutting into the crease of her thigh. “Frame. Of me.” She wrenched her hip back, trying to help or trying to punish, Maeve couldn’t tell which, and the movement only tightened the knot of fabric further, stranding it useless around one thigh while the other leg remained pinned beneath Maeve’s own. “You made me into your — Christ, just — ” The sentence dissolved as Maeve yanked again, the elastic finally giving with a small vicious snap of relief, sliding down to rest in the crook of one knee, where it stayed for the rest of it, forgotten, tangled and irrelevant, a discarded frame around a photograph nobody was looking at anymore.
Freed, or half-freed, they tried to close the distance and the geometry betrayed them instantly — Maeve’s hips canted forward to meet skin and found only the awkward jut of Kristen’s hipbone, a graze instead of a slide, and she had to draw back, re-angle, feel for the give of muscle instead of the resistance of bone. Maeve shifted her weight enough to ease off the leg she’d pinned, and Kristen dragged it free, hooking that thigh high over Maeve’s waist, the muscle trembling with the effort of holding itself aloft. It slipped a fraction on the sweat gathering between them, threatening to unspool the whole lock, and Kristen’s hand shot down to grip behind her own knee and haul it back into place, cursing under her breath at the effort of holding herself open with nothing but her own strained tendons for leverage. There was no headboard to brace against, no floor beneath a foot, nothing but the internal architecture of two bodies straining to stay fused without falling apart.
“You looked at the lens,” Maeve said, low, cut off almost immediately as her own hips finally found the right pitch and she felt — not the slide she wanted, not yet, but the first blunt press of contact, a coin dropped into the wrong slot before shifting a millimeter and landing true. Kristen’s breath left her in a rush that wasn’t quite a word. “Like you wanted—” Maeve tried again, and this time the drag came, slow and deliberate, her clit catching against the softer give of Kristen’s inner lip before slipping past it entirely, losing the angle again, both of them left grinding air and thigh muscle for three full, humiliating seconds before some tilt of Kristen’s pelvis brought them back into alignment.
“You handed me the — ” Kristen’s voice cracked around the last word as the alignment held this time, the two of them finding a rhythm that was less thrust than tremor, muscle contracting and releasing in place of any real motion, the friction generated entirely from within, from the clench of a thigh, the flex of a stomach, the small greedy roll of a hip that traveled no more than half an inch and yet arrived somewhere devastating. Maeve felt the exact moment Kristen’s clit found hers — a single hot point of pressure, gone as fast as it came, both of them chasing it back with small aborted movements that kept missing by a fraction and correcting, missing and correcting, the whole rhythm stuttering like a projector eating its own reel.
“—power,” Kristen finished, several beats late, the word arriving flattened, wrung out. Her hand left her own knee and found the back of Maeve’s neck instead, gripping hard enough to hurt, not tender, a fist closing on something it meant to keep from escaping. “You think I didn’t know what the shutter sounded like when you’d already decided what you wanted from me before I opened my mouth.” Her hips jerked forward, seeking, and overshot — a graze of pubic bone against Maeve’s, a small pained gasp swallowed between them — before she recalibrated, dragging back with agonizing slowness until the right pressure reasserted itself, a lens finally brought into focus after too much frantic twisting of the barrel.
Maeve’s other hand, braced flat against the mattress to keep them from rolling apart on the next stuttered thrust, finally let go and rose to Kristen’s hair, fisting a handful of it for the first time, less to angle her than to have something to hold that wasn’t slipping. “You performed it,” she said, and the word came out ragged in the middle, split by the sudden clench of Kristen’s inner walls fluttering against nothing, against the air where more pressure should have been and wasn’t yet. “You gave me every — every open mouth, every arched — you handed it to me.” She wedged her thigh higher, angling it into the space beneath Kristen’s raised leg, hunting the leverage that had eluded her three failed attempts running, and the drag that followed was long and unbroken, both of them gasping at the sudden continuity of it, a full stroke of sensation after so much stuttering half-contact. A word surfaced in Maeve’s skull without context — hold still — some ghost of the darkroom, a command she’d given a hundred times to a girl under lights, and she shoved it down before it could finish arriving.
“You never asked what it—” Kristen’s hips stuttered, lost the angle again as her thigh cramped from being held aloft too long without proper anchor, and she had to release Maeve’s neck to grab her own ankle, wrenching her leg back into its hooked position with a hiss of effort, sweat sliding into the corner of her mouth. “—cost me.” The interruption left Maeve’s clit dragging uselessly against the meat of Kristen’s thigh for a moment, no purchase, nothing but heat and the memory of better contact, until Kristen resettled and they found each other again, slower this time, both of them chastened by the loss, moving with the wary deliberation of two people who’d just watched something nearly break.
Maeve felt Kristen’s entrance flutter against her own, slick evidence smearing between them with each renewed pass, and a single image arrived unbidden and left just as fast — not a summary, not an explanation, just the flash-white memory of a shutter’s click, a sound like a small bone snapping, and beneath it Kristen’s face arranged into whatever expression Maeve had asked for that day. She didn’t let herself follow the thought further. She ground her hip down instead, harder, chasing the ache of it rather than the meaning.
“You printed me,” Kristen managed, breathless, the sentence fracturing across three separate thrusts, “and sold me, and left me—” a broken sound, not quite a moan, not quite a sob, “—empty in every darkroom you—” She didn’t finish it. Her whole body arched instead, the raised thigh trembling where it gripped high over Maeve’s waist, the tremor traveling up through her spine in a visible shudder that Maeve felt against her own chest, two knots of muscle straining together with nowhere left to go but further in.
Sweat slid from Maeve’s temple into the seam of Kristen’s mouth and Kristen didn’t turn away from it. Her eyes stayed open, wide, furious, fixed on Maeve’s face like she was daring her to look away first, and Maeve didn’t — couldn’t — some old reflex from behind a viewfinder keeping her locked on the frame even as her own climax coiled tight and vicious low in her belly, threatening to spend itself before she’d decided to let it. She held it back the way she’d once held her breath before a shot, denying herself the exhale until the composition was exactly what she wanted.
“Come,” Maeve said, and it left her mouth like something confessed rather than commanded, a single flat syllable that cracked the argument in half. She heard the word land and understood, with a clarity that turned her stomach even as her hips didn’t stop moving, that she was giving Kristen the only kind of permission she knew how to give — the kind that still required Kristen to obey her first. It wasn’t tenderness. It was the same hand that had once framed her, still arranging her, still deciding when the shutter opened. If there was absolution in it, it was the ugly kind, the kind that let Maeve call it giving when it was really just another way of taking.
Kristen’s whole body seized around the word, both thighs locking hard enough to bruise, her cunt pulsing against Maeve’s in helpless successive waves, flooding heat between them as a sound tore out of her that had no accusation left in it at all — raw, stripped, involuntary. Maeve felt every aftershock ripple through the cage of their locked limbs, felt her own climax finally break loose in its wake, smaller and meaner, more like relief than release, wrung out of her rather than given.
They stayed knotted together through the last of the trembling, neither loosening first. When Kristen’s hand finally moved, it wasn’t to Maeve’s spine — it dragged instead along her ribs, nails scoring a thin white line that could have been a claim or a shove, Maeve couldn’t tell which and didn’t ask. She only knew that the old order between them had cracked somewhere in the last few minutes and reformed into something she didn’t recognize, and that she had no way of knowing, watching Kristen’s face settle back into its familiar, guarded lines, whether she’d just reclaimed the lens or simply been made to look through it one more time.
